Where can I apply for a Belgian driving licence?

You can apply for a driving licence at the municipality where you reside. You do not get a new driving licence immediately. The procedure takes several weeks or months.

You must present the following documents:

• a recent passport photo
• a residency document
• a valid driving licence that you wish to exchange

How much does it cost to apply for a driver’s license?

Each municipality has its own price for issuing a driving licence. The average price is 25 euro.

Taking a driving test

If you want a driving licence, you have to pass a theoretical and a practical exam. During the test, you will be tested to see if you can drive, and if you have the necessary knowledge and driving skills. You can take the theoretical exam in Dutch (in Flanders, Brussels), in French (in Wallonia, Brussels) or with the help of a sworn interpreter in German or English.
